TITANIUM PROCESSING

Titanium, one of the hardest metals – we will undertake its processing – ask us for details!

CNC TITANIUM MILLING

Milling titanium is a difficult process due to the poor machinability of this material. One of the biggest challenges is proper heat dissipation.
Relatively little heat is given off by the chip, so most of the heat is absorbed by the tool. Due to this effect, attention should be paid to special attention
to the appropriate selection of the cutting width and ensuring proper cooling of the tool.

Another aspect in the titanium milling process is the size of the tool. The 70 percent rule should be followed, meaning the tool diameter should not exceed 70% of the pocket size. A smaller clearance will isolate the tool from the coolant and may cause clogging with chips that could, at least partially, dissipate the heat.

CNC Milling Titanium, What to Remember?

When milling titanium and other metals using CNC, it is important to remember to gently introduce the tool into the material. The most common cause of tool damage is a sudden change in load when the tool is introduced directly. To avoid this, use an arc-shaped entry, which allows for a gradual increase in cutting forces and prevents tool tear-out and instability. Additionally, the process of generating heat and producing chips is gradual until it is fully engaged in the material.
