Precise CNC milling of plastics is one of the services we provide

MACHINING OF PLASTICS

Plastic cutting encompasses a wide range of topics related to milling plastic, plexiglass, and PVC tiles. The processing of each of these groups of materials has different requirements and parameters. In many of them, it is necessary to use appropriate tools or conditions to obtain a satisfactory effect. In in most cases, commonly used CNC machines can be used. Milling of plastics, e.g. polyamide, is widely used in industry.

Laminates (layered material, pressed under high pressure, hardened with resin) are often used for furniture production. It is also used for floors, panels, doors, countertops. This is a hard material and is well suited for 2D processing. Woodworking tools, high-speed steels, or, best of all, carbides can be used here. To obtain the best surface quality, counter-rotary milling is possible (then the board does not fray). Cutting parameters depend on the cutting depth and the tool.

CNC milling of plastics, e.g. ABS, requires specific parameters and rotational speeds so as not to gum up the tool. It is good to use single- or double-blade cutters. For materials in the form of foam, it may be necessary to use tools, e.g. made of carbide.

Milling plastics, where is the material used?

Plexiglass is a material often used in advertising and construction. It is rigid, colorless, transparent and easy to process. It can be processed using ordinary tools (similar to aluminum, high-speed steel or carbide). The full name of the material is polymethyl methacrylate. It is most often available in the form of plates. It is very easy to drill, mill and cut. However, care should be taken not to overheat the plexiglass during processing (it melts easily), ensure liquid or air cooling, and frequently remove filings. The best results are achieved by using high revolutions at a low feed.

PVC is a widely used material. It can be in the form of a hard board. CNC milling machines and plotters are best suited for its processing. It is an easily processed material, e.g. using HSS cutters. PVC is most often used in construction and advertising. Foamed PVC, on the other hand, requires the use of, for example, carbide tools. The appropriate spindle speed must also be selected.
